Folk Music is "Traditional Music" music of the common people that has been passed on from generation to generation by memorization or repetition rather than by writing, and has deep roots in culture. People play and sing together rather than watching performances.  Folk songs are songs that express something about a way of life that exists now or in the past or is about to disappear (to be preserved or revived).  It’s a music that has endured and been passed down by oral tradition. What distinguishes folk music is that it is participatory—you don’t have to be a great musician to be a folk singer. Folk Music brings a sense of community. It’s the people’s music. I am Alice Parry and I play Hammered Dulcimer in a group called Jolly Hammers. I also am one of two coordinators . We are a part of the Folk Music Society of Midland Mi. In the society there are other bands and groups. We all do slightly different things. Jolly Hammers play at Nursing home, Seniors Centers, Festivals,  Jams, concerts, and any place they would like Dulcimer Music. . We have also been invited to play for some city events.  Cancer walk-a-thons, city park picnics, and etc. I am trying to get everything that a folk musician could use in one place.  I am open for suggestions of what else to add.
